ATEX Certified Safety

Does your facility already use a safe area IR camera alongside gas detectors and lengthy hot work permits? Did you know that third party research suggests that some 44 % of all gas releases or 38% of major gas releases remain undetected by the equipment fitted for that purpose?

Schedule 3 of the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) require that equipment used within an explosive atmosphere be selected on the basis of the requirements set out in the Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres 1996.

Previously there was no alternative; infrared inspection is a required practice whose benefit was offset against the increased risk of explosion associated with using none-certified cameras within an explosive atmosphere. This potentially unsafe practice was the only option available, until now…

“The UK Health & Safety at Work act states as a General Duty 2._(1) It shall be the duty of every employer to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of all his employees.”

The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations 2002, Schedule 3 states “Equipment and protective systems for all places in which explosive atmospheres may occur must be selected on the basis of the requirements set out in the Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 1996…”

• The revolutionary Dupl-Ex safety protection systems built into the Ex |CAM™ delivers dual redundant pressure protection and intrinsic safety in one neat package. Certified by DNV to ATEX 2 IIG T4 for use within Zone 1 areas Ex |CAM™ Professional does not require hot work permits and supplementary safety
systems for operation.”

The availability of Ex |CAM™ means that the use of delicate safe area IR instruments alongside permits and gas detectors within the Explosive Atmosphere is no longer acceptable. Continue reading to learn how Ex |CAM™ can help you work to legal requirements and keep your workers safe.
